Sculptural Bentwood Palm-Leaf Table Lamp, circa 1970s
Couldn't load pickup availability
A large and highly sculptural tropical palm-leaf form table lamp, dating most likely from the late 1960s to 1970s, embodying the confident organic modern aesthetic of the era.
Constructed from carved or laminated bentwood “petals” arranged in an opening lotus or palm bloom formation, the lamp radiates outward from a woven rattan-bound centre, all raised upon a turned circular wooden base. The craftsmanship suggests studio or artisan assembly rather than high-volume factory production.
When illuminated, the inner veneers glow with a rich amber warmth, creating a dramatic, atmospheric light effect typical of high-end 1970s ambient interiors. The piece transforms completely when lit — projecting layered shadow and depth across surrounding walls.
The design draws strong influence from:
• Tropical modernism
• Polynesian / tiki interiors
• Danish organic lighting
• Artisan studio craftsmanship
