Lebus Teak and Ebonised Two-Drawer Chest, early 1960s

A striking early 1960s chest of drawers by Lebus Furniture, clearly labelled and retaining its original maker’s badge.
This is not a standard mid-century chest — it sits firmly within that early 1960s transitional moment when British makers were experimenting with bolder, more architectural forms. The contrast between the warm teak veneer and the deep ebonised upper drawer creates a graphic, almost Brutalist visual rhythm, softened by the elegant grain and slender metal legs.
The elongated rectangular pulls reinforce the linear aesthetic, while the elevated stance gives the piece a light, floating quality.
Both drawers are traditionally constructed with dovetail joints — a strong indicator of quality manufacturing and durability. The proportions are compact yet impactful, making this ideal for bedroom storage, hallway placement or as a low statement piece within a modern interior.
