Tudor Revival Oak Coffer with Heraldic Carving

A striking early 20th century Tudor Revival oak coffer, richly carved with heraldic and foliate panels to all sides, including the rear, allowing it to stand freely within a room with full decorative presence.

Crafted in solid oak and finished in a deep, aged tone, the chest features carved crest panels including a stag atop a shield, stylised monogram detailing, oak leaf and acorn motifs, and belt and shield ornamentation — all classic elements inspired by late medieval and Jacobean design. The carving is bold and architectural, giving the piece genuine visual weight.

Unlike many comparable examples, the decorative work continues across the sides and back, elevating it beyond a simple storage chest into a freestanding statement piece. The hinged lid opens to reveal generous internal storage, making it as practical as it is characterful.

Its proportions make it versatile — equally suited to a hallway, at the foot of a bed, or used as a substantial coffee table in a period or country inspired interior. The depth of tone and carved surface catch the light beautifully, enhancing the sense of age and craftsmanship.

A confident and decorative antique with strong historic styling.
