Two Beautiful Handwritten Folios from a 14th-Century Mamluk Quran, Egypt or Syria

Presenting an exceptional pair of folios from a 14th-century Mamluk Quran, crafted in Egypt or Syria during a time of profound cultural and artistic innovation in the Islamic world. Each folio showcases five lines of stunning handwritten black muhaqqaq script on paper, which was favoured for its clarity and precision in Quranic calligraphy. This beautiful script is complemented by golden rosettes with dots marking the verse endings and intricate punctuation marks in red, demonstrating the meticulous artistry and reverence with which these manuscripts were created. Both folios are double sided with text on either side.

The two folios contain verses from Surah At-Tawbah: the first folio covers Quran IX, Verse 62 to Verse 64, while the second spans Verse 64 to Verse 66. Ink smudges and foxing add a unique historical charm, offering collectors a glimpse into the centuries-old journey of these sacred texts.
