Product Description for Facebook
A rare and unusual Edwardian oak sectional cabinet, designed for professional use in a solicitor's or clerical office, dating from c.1900-1930. Unlike standard Globe Wernicke barrister bookcases, this piece combines multiple functions in one tall, modular design: a bank of pigeonholes for correspondence, a glazed drop-front compartment for books or ledgers, further panelled drop-front sections for files, and a full base cupboard with shelving for bulk storage.
The result is a hybrid between a barrister's bookcase and an office correspondence cabinet - a configuration rarely found outside solicitor's or estate offices, often made to order rather than mass-produced. Constructed in oak with a dark stained finish, the piece is crowned with a moulded cornice and retains its rich patina, reflecting over a century of use.
Functional, versatile, and historically significant, this cabinet would serve equally well in a private library, study, or retail display, bringing both decorative character and practical storage.
