A superbly presented G Plan Fresco dining suite, comprising an extending teak dining table and six matching high-back dining chairs. Produced in the late 1960s-1970s by G Plan (E. Gomme Ltd.), one of Britain's most influential post-war furniture makers, this set captures the elegance and functionality of mid-century modern design.
The rectangular table features softly rounded edges and an integrated extension leaf, allowing the length to increase from 153 cm to 198 cm - comfortably seating six to eight guests. The surface has been professionally refurbished, revealing the natural warmth and depth of the teak grain, complemented by darker afromosia edging.
The six matching Fresco chairs are designed with tall, sculptural slatted backs and have been newly reupholstered in black vinyl for a sleek, practical finish. Their refined profiles make them as comfortable as they are stylish, ideal for both everyday dining and entertaining.
Cultural Context
The Fresco range was introduced by G Plan in 1966 and quickly became one of the company's most recognisable lines. Inspired by the organic forms and material palettes of Scandinavian designers such as Arne Vodder and Ib Kofod-Larsen, Fresco pieces combined affordability with modern elegance, helping to bring mid-century design into British homes.
By the late 1960s, G Plan had become the leading rival to Scandinavian imports, offering high-quality, mass-produced furniture that was both contemporary and accessible. Today, Fresco dining suites remain highly desirable for their balance of craftsmanship, modern lines, and enduring versatility.
